This style of teapot is close to the classic Xiao Ying shape. Dong Feng or Tong Fon, is the name of the company that produced this teapot in the 1980s. Dong Feng, based in the center of Taiwan’s Yingge ceramic industry, produced fine clay products. The workmanship of the handle and spout is impeccable and they are perfectly aligned. The finish is excellent.
It is clear that the level of quality of these kettles is of a very high standard. This is also reflected in the pouring and handling of the kettle, which is very comfortable to work with. What makes this teapot even more special is the high purity of the soil from which it is made. There is no kaolinite in this clay, the main ingredient in porcelain that was introduced in the 1990s as a way to reduce the cost of making clay products in Taiwan. By this we do not mean that kaolin is a bad material for making teapots, but it makes it denser and less porous.
This is a rare teapot with a very affordable price for this excellent quality.
