Silver needle is harvested at the beginning of spring when the concentration of flavors, aromas and nutrients is highest. It consists only of tea bush buds and requires an extremely large amount of buds for a kilogram of this tea of very high quality.

Silver needle Bai Hao Yin Zhen is a famous Chinese white tea. Bai Hao, or “silver,” refers to the fluffy white hairs that grow along the buds, while Yin Zhen, “needle,” describes the appearance of thick, flat buds, with tips as fine and sharp as needles. It is produced in Fujian where there are two places where this tea is produced, Fuding and Zhenghe. Fuding is in the northeastern Fujian at sea, and Zhenghe in the northwestern mountainous area of Fujian. The variety of tea to make in Fuding is called Fuding Dabai (Dabai means big white). The difference between the two varieties of Dabai is that Fuding’s leaf is slightly larger and wider than Zhenghe’s, and Zhenghe Dabai has a slightly longer stem. Fuding Silver needle is slightly soft and has a fresh high-mountain floral taste.

The mother tree of Dabaicha and Dabaicha tea cultivar

This white tea is one of the least processed teas. It dries naturally on bamboo substrates until 10-15% water remains in them. They are then additionally traditionally dried with the heat of charcoal, which is very important in the production of quality tea. Finally, the water content that remains after drying is below 6%.

It contains the most natural ingredients of tea. It is especially rich in antioxidants. Drinking Silver needle white tea has a lot of health benefits. It has anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties, reduces fat and cholesterol, protects teeth and makes the skin shiny and brighter.

Originally, this tea was made from the buds of the Xiaobai tea tree variety, smaller and slower in growth, which meant that the tea was thinner and more expensive.Around 1857, farmers began to use the Dabaihao variety with larger buds and the ability to produce higher quality tea, with more white hairs on the buds, stronger smell and taste. Since then, most types of white tea have been made from Dabaihao tea plants.
